Minister Nkoana-Mashabane to host pre-COP17/CMP7 Informal Ministerial Consultations
International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will host the traditional pre-COP17/CMP7 ministerial consultations on 20-21 October 2011 at the Spier Conference Centre in Stellenbosch, Western Cape Province.
As incoming COP17/CMP7 President, Minister Nkoana-Mashabane has a mandate to undertake inclusive and transparent consultations in order to facilitate work towards the success of the COP17/CMP7, which will be held in Durban from 28 November to 09 December 2011.
The aim of the pre-COP consultations is to exchange views on critical issues that could contribute to consensus-building in the formal party-driven process in the run up to COP17/CMP7.
Countries representing regional and negotiating blocs in the climate change negotiations, as well as the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC and the Chairs of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies and of the Open Ended Working Groups, will participate in the consultations.
