Getting to Durban by Aeroplane
Most international airlines arrive at the Oliver Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) in Johannesburg. A few international airlines fly directly to Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, but otherwise Durban could easily be reached with a one hour domestic flight from Johannesburg’s ORTIA.

To get around the Johannesburg-area from the airport, there are various options:
- Gautrain is a world-class, modern rapid rail and bus service for Gauteng province. For routes from ORTIA and prices visit www.gautrain.co.za
- Airport-accredited metered taxis and shuttles are located just outside both the domestic and international arrivals terminal buildings of ORTIA. Please do not use illegal operators.
Reaching Durban by rail
Durban is connected with other cities through a train service known as the ShosholozaMeyl. This service offers two types of accommodation: tourist class, which includes sleeper accommodation, and economy class with sitting accommodation.
